Sawyer County Snowmobile and ATV Trail Conditions:

The ATV trail system is in the confusing spring mode.  This is when you get to see our government agencies at their finest.  Trails in the Federal Forest opened May 1^st until they decided on May 1^st to request us to wait until the 10^th.  This is a request, whatever that means. Trails in the Flambeau Forest open May 15^th.  Trails on county property open May 5^th but that is tied into the county road bans which are different every year, but this year opens May 5^th.  The Tuscobia Trail is not closed in the spring.  Neighboring Washburn County is closed until the Friday before Memorial Day.  Neighboring Bayfield County is closed until we don’t know.  And all of these trails are on the same piece of dirt.  The best way to see which trails are open is to go to the only official ATV and Snowmobile Map in Sawyer County which is put out by the Sawyer County Snowmobile and ATV Alliance.  This map can be found at www.haywardlakes.com.
